Keynote presenter

Tim Fawns – Associate Professor (Monash University)

Tim Fawns is Associate Professor (Education Focused) at the Monash Education Academy. Tim’s research interests are at the intersection between digital, professional (particularly medical and healthcare professions) and higher education, with a particular focus on the relationship between technology and educational practice.

Tim’s research covers a broad range of educational practices (including curriculum design, assessment, teaching practice, evaluation and more), with emphasis on appreciating complexity in relation to online, blended and hybrid education. He has recently contributed to TEQSA’s Assessment reform for the age of artificial intelligence guidance document and played a leading role in a range of sector-wide events to help institutions respond to the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence.

Jonathan Moss
Lecturer in Quantitative Economics
Jonathan teaches business statistics, business decision making and analytics for business research and passionately strives for continual improvement of his units. The last couple of years he has been developing his units to include interactive lecture videos and personalised assessment questions which use postcode data, spatial databases and students interests to bring relatability and context to the student experience. In 2020, Jonathan was awarded a Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning as part of the Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) program.

Melanie Fillios
Associate Professor - Archaeology, Classics and Ancient History
Melanie is interested in ways of engaging students in virtual environments. She developed a way to teach traditionally lab-based skills online and has evaluated the benefits of learning in this third space. Melanie draws on this knowledge base in her current role as Director of Place-Based Education and Research, in which she facilitates relationships between the academy and industry to design new curricula that speak to the unique needs of our many physical and virtual spaces. In 2021 Melanie was awarded a Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning as part of the Australian Awards for University (AAUT) program.
